A nationwide prayer for the recovery of Zambia's President Levy Mwanawasa, 59, was held on 6th July 2008 (Sunday). Zambia, having adopted Christianity as its official religion, has on that day witnessed citizens filling every pew of churches across the country. From that on a strong wave of national unity prevails upto this day. And we desire to have God's grace in abundance in days to come.
The Salvation Army Chikankata Mission also organised a moving and compassinate prayer service for His Excellency on 11th July 2008 (Friday). It is our wish and prayer that our beloved President recovers and be in the service of the nation again.
The President had suffered a fatal stroke in Egypt, on 29th June 2008 (Sunday) ahead of an African Union summit. From there he was flown to Paris, France where he was treated (operated) at a millitary hospital.
